Getting the ball rolling
Taking Alexandra and Henry's Rydal Penrhos Weding photos has been an absolute honour. I cannot express how much of an absolute joy this wedding was to be part of. Alexandra and Henry… where do I even start. A super laid back, warm and funny (Like, properly funny) couple and within ten minutes of arriving for the day we felt like we were just another guest with a camera.
The day started at Alexandra’s parent’s place in Towyn, but we didn’t join until just after the usual bridal prep bit. Which honestly, suited the flow of the day. It wasn’t one of those high-pressure weddings where every second felt like it was on a tight schedule. This was relaxed from the get go.
The ceremony was held in the church where Alexandra was christened, which made it feel extra personal. There were around 120 guests and you could tell straight away how much love was in the room (even if it felt like it was 200 degrees in there!). After the ceremony, they hopped into the best looking VW campervan I have ever seen in my life and headed off to Rydal Penrhos. It was a bit of a drive between the two spots, maybe 20 minutes or so, but it gave everyone a chance to catch their breath and gather their thoughts. The Weather was meant to be awful all day, but thankfully it didn’t turn out that way. We had a bit of drizzle later on but nothing that got in the way.
Rydal Penrhos Wedding Photos
This was my first time shooting at Rydal Penrhos and honestly, what a place. The grounds were spotless, like not a blade of grass out of place. The building itself had so much character. Big wooden beams, huge windows, old panelled walls. The kind of place that makes you want to stop and take a minute before you even think about getting the camera out.
Maria, the wedding planner there, was so much fun to work with. Some venues feel a bit chaotic behind the scenes, but she had everything running smooth and somehow still found time to be genuinely lovely all day. Always makes a difference when the people behind the scenes are calm and know what they’re doing.
For the couple shots, we kept things nice and relaxed. Fifteen minutes was literally all we needed. We wandered around the grounds, found some lovely little spots (stone archways, these big old wooden doors that looked incredible in the photos) and a few quiet tree-covered corners that felt really peaceful. I always stress to my couples how important it is to take that 5 minutes to themselves as it’s a chance to spend some time together uninterupted. It can get quite overwhelming being around your guests all day and the time you spend together during the couple photos are perfect for that!
Wrapping up the day
The speeches were a proper highlight. Alexandra’s dad kicked things off and it was emotional in the best way. You could tell he was holding back tears from the first sentence. Then Henry stood up and delivered one of those calm but heartfelt speeches that gets everyone quiet. Proper good stuff. And then the best man… well, that was chaos in the best possible way. He’s Henry’s brother and did not hold back. The kind of speech where you laugh but also glance at the groom to check if he’s still breathing. It was brilliant.
There was no first dance, which weirdly worked perfectly. It gave the day this natural flow that just eased into the evening. Nothing forced, no sudden moment of pressure where everyone has to stop and watch. Just people chatting, laughing, enjoying being together. And honestly, that’s what this whole wedding felt like. Effortless but packed with meaning. Just two people doing the day their way and pulling it off perfectly.
