As someone who has become a York Wedding Photographer for the day, this one was a bit special.

Garry and Amy got married at the Hospitium right in the middle of York, and honestly, it was perfect. Proper medieval vibes, old stone walls, tourists wandering around doing their thing. A few even stopped to take photos of the couple (and fair enough, they looked amazing) Garry and Amy just laughed it off and carried on. Cool as anything.

I’ve known Garry since school, so this one hit a bit differently. Feels mad how life comes full circle sometimes. One minute you’re sat in maths, the next you’re working as a York wedding photographer, photographing your mate’s wedding in the middle of the city. Loved it.

The weather actually held up well. Bit of rain during the ceremony and just after, but nothing major. Didn’t slow the day down at all. We got loads of couple shots around the Hospitium and in the ruins nearby — even with the crowds. They didn’t care. They just embraced it, took a few pics with strangers and cracked on. Honestly, they made my job easy.

The reception was over at Dovecote Barns in Cawood and it was just… class. Totally different feel to York. Rustic, cosy, full of character. Nothing about it was showy, but everything felt intentional, if that makes sense. Like a DIY wedding but done really well. The whole thing had this elopement energy, just with all their favourite people around them.

The Food that was served was unreal. The Shed Catering absolutely smashed it. The Sausage Rolls they had were honestly to die for! Only bit of the day that gave us grief was the lighting during speeches — sun blasting through massive windows right in front of the top table was a bit of a nightmare to shoot, but we smashed it!

If you're looking for a York wedding photographer, give me a shout. Whether you're going for something laid-back and personal like this, or something a bit more traditional, I’d love to help!
